My name is XYZ and I am from class XY, we all have gathered here to celebrate the birthday of Father of our Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.
In India, Gandhi Jayanti has its own importance, it is celebrated each year to commemorate the birth anniversary of the man who led the fight for freedom with ‘Non-Violence’. It is the day when all the countrymen come together and pay tribute to this great man who helped the country get free from British colonial rule. The man who guided people to fight for their rights following the non-violent approach. Because he struggled for India’s Independence, one of the famous Indian Nationalists, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose gave him the name “Father of the Nation”.
Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2nd, 1869 in a small town named Porbandar which is in Gujarat. Mahatma Gandhi’s 153th Birth Anniversary will celebrate not only in India but also celebrated and organized with different programs around the world. He firmly believed in the purity of religion and the forerunner of truth and non-violence. His Ideologies of Non-Violence, Truth, Sarvodaya and Satyagraha, and Ahimsa impacted the lives of many Great individuals like Martin Luther King Jr. It is like a double-edged weapon. The legacy Gandhiji has left behind still does not fail to impact the lives of people living in modern times. Gandhi Jayanti holds immense importance in the life of the people of India. Moreover, it is not just a celebration, it is a day to remember and follow the beliefs, ideology, and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. He also raised his voice against the untouchability and the caste system in the country. Based on his ideologies and teachings, India launched the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan,’ which means Clean India Mission, on October 2, 2014. The main motto behind this mission is to improve solid waste management in rural and urban areas and get rid of open defecation in India.
The education of Mahatma Gandhi was done in London and he is a Lawyer by profession. At the age of 19, he went to London for his higher studies. After completing his law in London, he shifted to South Africa with his wife Kasturba Gandhi, and resided there for many years. In South Africa also, he remained active in the movements which led to fighting injustice against the Indians living there. He struggled against injustice and unlawful acts such as Civil Disobedience Movement in Africa, which started in the year 1906. Gandhiji fought for approx. eight years in South Africa against the government, during the Movement, many Indians who were residing in South Africa were shot dead and many were left jailed in severe atrocities.

Not even this, during his practice days in the courtroom, Gandhiji was asked to put off his turban, which made him helpless to act and he leaves the courtroom immediately. Several incidences happened to him, where Gandhiji faced crucial discrimination by the white people just because of being an Indian in a white country. At several points in his life, Gandhiji was incarcerated and tortured by the British government, but this great man never chooses the path of violence. Instead of violence, he gave his voice more power by doing strikes for days, without food. A speech is not enough to know the personality, values, and deeds of Mahatma Gandhi. But we can honour him by living our life with his principles of truth, peace, and non-violence and lead our country to an incredible nation.
