This year marks the 9th anniversary of International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) which is organized by the Women’s Engineering Society. Only 16.5% of engineers working are women. In an era when women engineers are largely underrepresented in their profession, INWED gives them a voice. The platform encourages more young women and girls to pursue engineering careers because it is the only platform of its kind.

Role of Women’s Engineering Society in Empowering Female Engineers
After the First World War, the Women’s Engineering Society was founded to assist women in technical fields who were finding it difficult if not impossible to continue their careers as engineers. As a result of a change in the law allowing women engineers to return to the domestic sphere at the same time as their sisters were permitted to become civil service employees or lawyers, the WES was established by pioneering and influential women. Women in Engineering Society (WES) has been working tirelessly to ensure equality in engineering for over a century.
