11 July 2022

World Population Day

Every year on 11 July World Population Day is observed to raise awareness about major issues relating to rapidly growing world population.

In 2022, there are around 8 billion people on the Earth.

One of the major reasons of uncontrolled population growth is unwanted pregnancy.

According to UNFPA's State of World Population report for 2022, almost half of all pregnancies in the world are unintended.

Five Billion Day (when world population crossed 5 billion mark), observed on July 11, 1987 is the same day that inspired the establishment of World Population Day.

World Population Day Theme 2022 - "A world of 8 billion: Towards a resilient future for all - Harnessing opportunities and ensuring rights and choices for all".
