Good morning, everyone!

As we all know, we have gathered here to celebrate World Tourism Day. Let me take this opportunity to thank all of my teachers and friends who believed in me and provided me with the wonderful opportunity to express my views on World Tourism.

World Tourism Day is celebrated on September 27, every year. This day is celebrated to raise awareness among people about covering the social, cultural, political, and economic contribution of tourism towards gaining the Sustainable Development Goals. The day is also celebrated to spread awareness about the importance of tourism and its impact on our society. During the time of the pandemic, the tourism sector remains one of the worst affected sectors. Almost, 90 percent of world heritage sites were closed and millions of people who were dependent on tourism for their livelihoods were left unemployed. The purpose of World Tourism Day is to highlight the importance of the tourism sector in our lives and to focus on inclusive growth in the sector.

Over the last two decades, the Tourism industry has become one of the most important and powerful engines for economic and sustainable growth in many countries. Tourism development is not only a choice or a luxury, it is a necessity for development, diversification of the national economy, and the creation of jobs. Moreover, it is a tool for bridging the communication and cultural gaps and for propagating the values of tolerance and openness. The major purpose of celebrating World Tourism Day is to raise the importance of tourism globally and to show the public how tourism affects not only the economic values of a country or region but also it affects the political, social, and cultural values of the country or region.

Tourism has an important role in promoting cultural knowledge and awareness, offering the necessary tools and public opinion support in protecting world heritage. The prime role of World Tourism Day is to highlight the global significance of tourism. According to the European Council on Tourism and Trade, Tourism is the greatest educator in the world. Tourism is important for a country as it boosts the revenue of the economy, creates thousands of jobs, develops the infrastructure of a country, and plants a sense of cultural exchange between foreigners and citizens. The tourism industry also helps to protect the environment and its wildlife and encourages tourists to respect the lands and communities they visit.

This year Bali, Indonesia is officially going to host World Tourism Day, program consists of video presentations, lectures by members of government, a presentation of national tourism awards, and panel discussions. The day is celebrated in several different ways. On this day many tourist spots like amusement parks, museums, and other cultural venues give free entry or reduce the charges of entry tickets to attract tourists and foster tourism. We cannot ignore the fact that tourism has become the fastest growing and developing economic sector in the world because of the occurrence of various attractive and new destinations for tourists. France is the most popular tourist destination in the world and it is famous among people for more than 30 years, as it offers a myriad of attractions like the Eiffel tower, countless world-class restaurants, the Musée du Louvre, the Palace of Versailles, the Notre-Dame cathedral, the beaches of the Côte d’Azur, and course, Disneyland Paris.

Spain is another tourist destination with interesting overflowing attractions. It has many beautiful destinations to visit like the Guggenheim Museum, the Alhambra and Generalife Gardens, Europe’s largest aquarium (the lily-shaped L’Oceanogràfic), the beaches of Gran Canaria, and La Rambla in Barcelona.

London, England’s capital city, attracts visitors with a wide range of sights including Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, and the British Museum, which includes the largest collection of Egyptian artifacts. Not only this, but England also offers the mysterious Stonehenge, the Beatles’ birthplace in Liverpool, the quaint beauty of the Cotswolds, the sci-fi botanical gardens of the Eden Project, and more.

Well, tourism is not only important for a country’s growth it is also equally important for people. Tourism has many social benefits too, the more we experience other ways of life, the less threatened we feel by differences among the people. Travel helps create new relationships between people which broadens horizons, encourages tolerance, and can even help in reducing violence. It affects our mental health and improves our quality of life.
