Literacy Rate in India State-wise 2023 List

National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5) 2019-21 reports male literacy at the India level in 2021 at 84.4% and female literacy at 71.5%. 

At the all-India level, the male-female gap is 12.9 percentage points, with male literacy at 84.7% and female literacy at 70.3%. Kerala has the smallest gap of 2.2 percentage points between male and female literacy.
