Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar Categories

The Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar is categorized into four distinct categories:

  1. Vigyan Ratna (VR) award: This recognizes lifetime achievements and contributions made in any field of science and technology.
  2. Vigyan Shri (VS) award: It acknowledges distinguished contributions in any field of science and technology.
  3. Vigyan Yuva-Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar (VY-SSB) award: This award encourages young scientists up to the age of 45 years who have made exceptional contributions in any field of science and technology.
  4. Vigyan Team (VT) award: This is granted to teams consisting of three or more scientists, researchers, or innovators who have collectively made exceptional contributions while working as a team in any field of science and technology.

Domains Covered Under Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar

The Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar will be presented across 13 domains, encompassing Physics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Mathematics & Computer Science, Earth Science, Medicine, Engineering Sciences, Agricultural Science, Environmental Science, Technology & Innovation, Atomic Energy, Space Science and Technology, and Others. These awards will prioritize representation from each domain or field, ensuring gender parity.

Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar Nominations and Award Ceremony

Nominations for this comprehensive range of awards will be solicited annually, commencing on January 14th and remaining open until February 28th (National Science Day) each year. The announcement of these awards will occur on May 11th (National Technology Day) annually, with the Award Ceremony for all award categories taking place on August 23rd (National Space Day). Each award will include a certificate (Sanad) and a medal.

All nominations received for the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar awards will undergo evaluation by the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar Committee (RVPC), presided over by the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) to the Government of India. The committee includes Secretaries of Science Departments, members of Science and Engineering Academies, and distinguished scientists and technologists from various scientific and technological fields.
