World Ocean Day Theme 2023
The theme of World Oceans Day 2023 is “Planet Ocean: Tides are Changing.” This year’s theme emphasizes the ocean’s role in supporting life and livelihood. The dumping of plastic debris into the ocean is a cause for concern because it harms the life there and threatens the ocean’s inhabitants. For the first time this year, the UN will broadcast live from New York from its Headquarters on World Ocean Day, which is taking place on June 22.

World Ocean Day History
A proposal for UN World Ocean Day was first made at the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. To address ocean issues and conserve ocean water, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declared June 8 as World Oceans Day in 2008. After a year, the UNGA officially declared the day in Resolution 63/111.
